Critique Challenge Level 1: TV Advertisement (Filial Piety: Father and Son)


For the beginning, I want to explain about objectivism meaning. According to Ryn Rand philosophy, Objectivism hold that, reality exist as an objective. Facts are facts, independent of man’s feeling, wishes, hopes or fears. The reason is man’s only means of perceiving reality, his only source of knowledge, his only guide to action and his only basic means of survival. Every man is end in himself not the means to the ends of others. He must exist for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to the others or sacrificing others to himself. The pursuit of his own rational self-interest and of his own happiness is the highest moral purpose of his life.
TV Advertisement that our group choose for Aesthetics Evaluation was Filial Piety : Father and Son. Based on 4 criterion namely audiences, behaviours, condition and degree, my opinion in objectivism that occur in this video is audiences should realize parental love will not be stale with time after viewing Filial Piety : Father and Son video. Parental love difficult to be looked for, therefore, value and love them fully. Besides that, after watching this video, audiences should know how to respond their parents good deeds that take care of them from child reach to adult. This video teach the audience the way to remember parents good deeds. Other than that, audiences should be able to learn to love their parents from their parents during watching this video from the beginning to the end. Young generation take the good way how to treat their parents from the experiences of their parents. Last but not least, even as bad as whichever parents treat their children, audiences should not grudge with parents but love them because those who gave opportunity to us to see the world now.
What I want to tell here about this video is the journey of a young boy of a three generation household, as he sees first hand, the importance of respecting, honouring and loving his parents through the best and the worst of times. What truly captured my heart is the line “How one generation loves, the next generation learn”. There couldn’t be more true to that line. I learn respect, unconditional love and acceptance from watching how my parents treat their parents. After making study on this video, found that grandmother suffer Alzheimer’s disease. She forgets that they are her family. Son do not like the grandmother serve their family like that. So, son dissatisfaction for what his grandmother had done. Until the father tell sacrifice that his grandmother doing to his father while still child. Now is the time to return the grandmother merit on the other hand. Finally, Son aware the love have no price. From what I seen from this video, the video contain attitude, children, family, inspiration kids, learning to love, love, parenting, patience, reflection, relationship, respect, social message, touching story, unconditional love and unconditional acceptance. Moral of the value, we should care our parents when they already old afterwards because they already no one more than his own child to take care of him. This case like when they take care of us during past childhood time.
My proposal to further increase this TV Advertisement video was daughter-in-law character should give more the patience when serve the mother-in-law behavior. Although the mother-in-law uninterested to eat the cooking but daughter-in-law must understand the mother-in-law state ill. With this, audiences will more experiencing daughter-in-law character that crowded with sympathy.
